The Dedication of the International Plaza at the Ajijic malecon was held on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at 4 P.M. The event was attended by local dignitaries: Mayor of Chapala, Joaquin Huerta; Delegado de Ajijic, Hector Espana Ramos; Queen of the Fiesta de la Patria, Viviana Blas; President of the Lakeside Garden Guild, Bonnie Newman, as well as several members of the Garden Guild. The International Plaza is a garden of sculptures remembering beloved residents of Ajijic who have contributed to the Ajijic Community. At the event were longtime residents; Harry and Chris Bublin, Bob and Barbara Sherritt, Leslie Martin and many others, Mexican, Americans and Canadians all. Each dignitary spoke, welcoming everyone. The event was very well attended. Refreshments were served after the ribbon cutting was accomplished.
If you are interested in donating or contributing to the Plaza, please contact Tommy Thompson at Barbara’s Bazaar.
Respectfully submitted, Nancy M. Daniel Publicity Chair
The Lakeside Garden Guild began in September of 1968 by women who were interested in the love of gardening and floral decoration. Over the years the interest grew to include a total of 40 women who put their skills together in a social network and has expanded to several community projects that have helped the local people as well as beautifying the Ajijic village, Gran Plaza and streets.
